Go On A Treasure Hunt!

My Sister Knits is full of treasures! Often we stick to what we know and love which can become monotonous. To avoid monotony, there are lovely, noteworthy delights that await our discovery!

Our challenge to you is to discover a new love, one that might surprise you! The next time you come into the shop, give yourself time to go on your own personal treasure hunt. This could be fun with a friend but can also be enjoyed solo.

The idea is to expand your awareness of what you like and perhaps try something different.

Let’s take a fictional knitter whose name is Marjie. Marjie loves to make shawls and does not want to attempt socks or a sweater. Cowls might be okay. So she sets up her treasure hunt mentally before she comes to My Sister Knits. As a general rule, Marjie knits textured shawls out of worsted weight tonal yarn, with greens being her favorite colors.

Today, she looks at all the sample shawls on display with new eyes. She heads upstairs to find a fingering-weight one that she likes. Going through the samples on the sample rack, she gets an idea of what she will try….one that has an intriguing design with dropped stitches! It’s out of her comfort zone and she’s never noticed this particular shawl before.  She tries it on and falls in love with it!

Now Marjie heads to the fingering weight yarns with a bit of trepidation because, again, it’s out of her comfort zone. Even so, she’s having fun with this treasure hunt!

Marjie is enthralled with the assortment of hand-dyed variegated and speckled yarns and pulls out several that catch her eye. She notices that they are so soft and sees that they will drape beautifully. This will definitely be a different type of shawl than what she is used to! A few other customers in the shop are eager to talk to her about her color choices and she has fun deciding which one to get.

Fast forward several weeks…..Marjie had so much fun creating something unlike her usual creations! She loves the speckled yarn she chose with a bit of green to suit her taste and she plans another treasure hunt soon, branching out to a cowl!

You, too, can go on a treasure hunt for something new and adventurous! It might be an unusual yarn, new notions, an out-of-the-ordinary type of project, an atypical color, anything! Browse the shop, paying particular attention to that which you walked right on by in the past. If you’d like, let us know you’re on a treasure hunt!

Monthly Knitting Day!

Our once-a-month day to indulge in uninterrupted knitting time is Friday, Oct. 21st! This month our theme is to work on a WIP, otherwise known as a Work In Progress! Join me at the community table upstairs, along with other fiber-adoring people for an hour, all day, or anything in between! We go from 10 until 4.

This is such a wonderful opportunity to laugh, have good conversation, and work on a project! It’s helpful if you call the shop at 970.407.1461 to sign up but not necessary.

Happy knitting,
