December is Love and Knitting is Love Made Visible
“Properly practiced, knitting soothes the troubled spirit, and it doesn’t hurt the untroubled spirit either.”
“Knit on with confidence and hope through all crises.”
Elizabeth Zimmerman, the beloved mother of ‘modern’ knitting, was a wise woman. She understood that knitting is so much more than just following a pattern and creating something. The reasons we knit are many and varied.
Biches & Buches Yarn Is Here
Biches & Buches aran weight le gros lambswool is among the newest yarns to find a home at My Sister Knits.
Plystre and Cohana
We at Sister Knits love items from the United States but recently Julie found two companies from abroad that meet our high standards!
A Morning With Deb Robson
Deb Robson is a fiber generalist, a fount of information on all things woolly, and she lives right here in Fort Collins!
Deb is the fiber author of The Fleece and Fiber Sourcebook, in collaboration with livestock expert Carol Ekarius. This book is an encyclopedia of more than 200 animal fibers! The photos of the animals, fleece, yarn, and swatches are pure visual delight.
German Short Row Success!
Do short rows send you running for the hills? They tend to strike fear into the hearts of many knitters.
I am going to tell you about my journey to short row confidence with the hope that it will inspire you to be brave and not shy away from them.
New In The Shop!
There are a variety of items we want you to know about this week! We’ve been busy unpacking and restocking and uttering cries of delight with it all!

Handmadebywhoo Bags Have Arrived!
My Sister Knits has some new handmadebywhoo bags in the shop! These bags fly out almost as soon as they come in!
My Sister Knits Lending Library!
My Sister Knits now has a lending library!
We thought it would be a tremendous addition to the shop to have an assortment of books that our customers can check out!
Get It While It Lasts!
North Light Fibers is discontinuing their worsted weight Water Street and Atlantic yarns. Never fear, the DKs will still be available!
If you’ve been wanting some of this luscious yarn now is the time to get it before it’s all gone!
Samples Galore!
Samples abound at My Sister Knits! Our samples are meant to be taken down, tried on, turned inside out, examined, and in general, used!
We have several new ones that we’re going to highlight in this post. We encourage you to come in and fondle them to your heart’s content!
Two Inspiring Events!
Get out your calendars because we have two awesome events coming up!
Fabulous Frida!
This week My Sister Knits received a breathtakingly beautiful shawl that we immediately put on display! Frida is an older Brooklyn Tweed triangular shawl design published in 2013.
An Invitation to Make a Hat Day!
National Make a Hat Day is an unofficial holiday that occurs every September 15th. We don’t know who started it or when it began but it’s a great way to kick off your fall knitting!
It’s becoming a tradition at My Sister Knits to celebrate Make a Hat Day! Since September 15th is a Sunday this year, we shall have our party on Saturday, September 14th from 10 until 4.
Brooklyn Tweed Trunk Show
Our latest Brooklyn Tweed trunk show will be at the shop for just a few more days! One of the best ways for a yarn company to showcase their various yarns is to create a collection of samples and then send these samples to yarn shops. We get to see and feel the yarns in finished projects.
Meet Francis Cestari!
Francis Cestari is a legend in the United States wool world and he is coming to My Sister Knits! He’ll be here Tuesday August 27th from 1pm until 4pm. Meeting this impressive and dedicated sheep farmer and hearing his stories will be an event you’ll never forget.
Polarized Hat Class!
With mornings and evenings getting cooler, our thoughts are beginning to turn to fall knitting. A new hat is a great way to celebrate the coming change of seasons!
We have a hat class for you in September that gives you a chance to gain colorwork experience and learn how to make the exquisite Latvian Braid!
Are You Cabling Yet?
Cabling is a technique that creates rich complex looking fabric that is (for the most part) a snap to accomplish. New knitters are often daunted by cabling and postpone learning how. We'd like to share a few tips that may make this technique more approachable for newer knitters.
Pot Pourri
There are three events happening in August and September that we at My Sister Knits want you to be aware of!
