Hey everybody, it’s here!!! The Hot August Knits yarn crawl is underway from August 1st through the 9th. All eight shops will be open at least from 10 - 5 and some (like My Sister Knits) will have their regular extended hours.

Are you ready? Have you planned your route? If you’re using a paper passport, have you printed it? It will help the shops so much if you print it out ahead of time. You can also scan the QR code at each shop which will count as a passport stamp.

My Sister Knits is ready for all crawlers! Our signature yarn color, all of the minis are dyed by Dawn of MakerWool in Longmont, arrived with our signature stitch markers attached to each skein. Note the resemblance to the chocolates we always have on hand! We have our supply of Hot August Knits tote bags. Nell, for those of you who may not know, is our shop dog and there is a bowl of totally adorable pins available free for the taking for everyone who comes into the shop. In addition, we have a limited number of notions bags with her on the front. Our daily drawing prizes are sitting in a box in the back room, just waiting to be handed out. We are a go!

While you’re in the shop during the crawl, be sure to browse our trunk show from Chronicles of Cheryl. Cheryl has a small business in Pittsburgh, dyeing yarn in her basement, and we can’t wait to see what she’s sent us for the yarn crawl! It’s still a surprise as I write this. One thing we know for sure is that we love the yarn she created specifically for us. It’s beautiful and goes so well with all of the HAK mini colors!

Cheryl’s inspiration was the Broad-tailed hummingbird, the most commonly seen in Colorado. They’re the first to arrive in April and the last to leave in August. I’ve never thought much about hummingbirds and learned that these little guys are sometimes referred to as ‘little mountaineers’. They migrate 1,500 miles from wintering in southern Mexico. Their average flight speed is 30mph and they beat their wings about 50 times/second! Can you imagine? They arrive here in time to get the early nectar of blooming flowers. However, due to climate change, the flowers are blooming earlier and this will cause a problem for these beautiful hummingbirds in the future as they need that early nectar. We’ll also have a trunk show on Saturday, July 8th from Little Squirrel, a local yarn company founded by Sarah and Dylan. Their ‘about’ story is so cute, here’s a link to it.

A name will be drawn at the end of every day to determine our Daily Drawing winner. Winners will be notified after the shop closes each day.

We have some new yarns from Kelbourne Woolens, Hue Loco, and Jody Long for you to discover while you’re in the shop. Be sure to look for them!

So, before you forget, print out your passport if you’re using the paper one and we’ll see you during the crawl!
