Summer Events!
My Sister Knits is eagerly looking forward to some fun summer events over the next eight weeks or so!
The first one is a visit from Jill Zielinski, which I am super excited about! I’ve ‘known’ Jill as Knitterella on Ravelry for years; she designed one of my favorite hats, the Smocked Slouch. A few years ago, she decided to launch her own yarn company, North Bay Fiber, and the knitting world is much the better for it!
North Bay Fiber yarn is created from breed-specific wool that is sourced, spun, and hand-dyed in the United States. The Heritage line is processed, milled, and dyed from Targhee-Polypay sheep in Michigan, Jill’s home. Her Elemental line, from Cormo sheep in Wyoming, is processed in Pennsylvania and dyed in Michigan.
Jill has given us a choice of spinning styles; Heritage is woolen spun and Elemental is worsted spun. In a nutshell, woolen spun yarn is lofty, lightweight, and extra warm while worsted spun yarn is drapey, has excellent stitch definition, is dense, and lustrous. Here’s an article that goes into more depth about the two spinning techniques.
Jill will be at My Sister Knits Friday and Saturday, July 11th and 12th. Watch for more details of her visit!

Our second exciting summer event is in conjunction with the Hot August Knits yarn crawl. Ryan Page Haas, from Salty Blonde Fiber, will be at My Sister Knits the first Saturday of the yarn crawl, July 26th! We’re fortunate to have such a talented yarn dyer right down the road in Elizabeth, CO! Ryan dyes a variety of superwash and non-superwash yarns. One of her non-superwash yarns, Prairie, comes from the Shaniko Wool Company in Oregon. Their wool comes from Merino and Merino/Rambouillet sheep raised in the western U.S. and was the first ranch in the world to be RWS certified. We can’t wait to see it!
That brings us to the Hot August Knits yarn crawl! From Saturday, July 26th to Sunday, August 10th, you’ll have the opportunity to visit 7 yarn shops from Laramie and Estes Park south to Louisville. This is not only a great chance to visit yarn shops you’ve never been to but also a wonderful opportunity to take the scenic back roads!
If you visit each shop, and ‘stamp’ your digital passport by scanning the QR code, you’ll have a chance to win one of 7 grand prize baskets! Shops will also have other give-aways and special events. We’ll keep you up to date on the special events at My Sister Knits as details become available!
Also, each shop will have a limited number of mini skeins in their special colorway. There are 7 colorways in all. When put together, they create a stunning group of colors! Each shop will have pattern ideas for these unique minis!
The Mighty Mini scarf, designed by Rachel Molenaar using the yarn crawl’s 7 colorways plus black.
We encourage you to mark these happenings on your calendars so you can take part in the fun!
Happy knitting,
