Happy HipKnitShop Yarn!

My Sister Knits is proud to be the only US yarn store to carry HipKnitShop yarn from Norway!

HipKnitShop works with independent shepherds in Peru who have long traditions in sheep farming and wool production. The Highland sheep are a crossbreed of Corriedale and Merino, and are known for the softness and strength of their wool. It also is durable and will withstand wear and tear which is handy because many of their designs are for children!

Speaking of children, their colors and designs are inspired by their creativity and imagination. They’re happy!

We carry two bases, and before I go on, I’ll explain what a yarn base is. It refers to the fiber in the yarn and the weight and will let you know the characteristics of that yarn. Kind of like choosing a type of flour for a recipe. The other day I made muffins with whole wheat pastry flour instead of white flour. The consistency changed but using one instead of another wasn’t inherently good or bad, just different.

We have Hip Wool, which is 100% Peruvian Highland wool and is an Aran weight. We also have Fluff, a Super Bulky blend of 78% mohair, 13% Merino wool, and 9% nylon.

The HipKnitShop designs evoke a sense of fun as you’ll find out when you come into the shop and see our samples. We have a collection of sweaters and hats that is growing by the day!

Fishy sweater

The Fishy Sweater is whimsical with one fish in our sample knit with a different color. You could even turn the fish around and have it swimming against all the others! There is also an adult Fishy sweater!

The HipKnitShop patterns aren’t available on Ravelry. We have ones that you can buy at My Sister Knits but you’ll only have the paper pattern. If you want one for future use also, you’ll need to purchase it from their website. Browsing their website is fun as you can see all of the different types of patterns they have and the colors they use. One of my favorites is the Northern light sweater; the colors are exuberant!

Here’s a link to the Ravelry project pages to see what people have made with Hip Wool and one to the Fluff pages as well.

We’ll be happy to show you the samples when you come into the shop!

Happy knitting,
