Subtle, Heathery Wooldreamers Saona

Wooldreamers has an intriguing yarn for spring knitting! Saona is a 50/50 wool-cotton blend, all from Spain. The wool is a blend of Merino and Manchega. The fun thing about Manchega is that it comes from Manchega sheep who are also the source of Manchego cheese!

Ramon and his brother-in-law Oscar are the driving force behind Wooldreamers yarn. They want to preserve Spain’s heritage wools and ensure their future. Spain, after all, is the original source of Merino sheep and it would be a shame if that was lost. Ramon and Oscar build relationships with ranchers and keep their production chain short and close to home. They can trace their wool and cotton back to the herds it comes from, many within 90 miles of the Wooldreamers’ mill.

Wooldreamers is a special company with an unusually small, local footprint in Spain. That’s one of the reasons we love this company and their yarn!

Wooldreamers Saona

Back to Saona…the colorways of Saona are the result of a collaboration with Hailey Smedley, also known as Ozetta Knitwear. Unlike most of My Sister Knits’ other yarns, there are only a handful of shades in Saona; they are beautifully subtle and heathered.

Hailey, who lives in Guthrie, OK, has designed several tops using this yarn, from pullovers to tees. Her intention is to design classic clothing staples that will last a lifetime. You might like to check out these patterns on Ravelry: Air Tee, Earth Pullover, and Lakes Tee.

The Baktus scarf pattern is available at My Sister Knits

Saona is an ideal yarn for summer; it has more stretch than linen and cotton alone and is lighter weight than pure cotton. Another  pretty summer tee that people have knit using Saona is Jessica McDonald’s Violet.

My favorite color is Groen with Fratelli coming in second. We invite you to come in and choose your favorite!

Happy knitting,
