Last-Minute Knits for the Holidays
Christmas is almost here and it is crunch time for knitters who still need to finish up those last-minute gifts. If you need some ideas and inspiration, I have a few that you can still knit up in time for the big day. All of these patterns are free on Ravelry and can be finished fast!
The Gridiron Hat is a quick, yet beautiful, knit. Mine is done in one skein of Cascade Baby Alpaca Chunky, a soft and warm yarn that MSK carries is many colors. I finished it in one (fairly dedicated) evening. The best thing about it is that is can be worn by either men or women, so it is a great present for anyone on your list.
Another great gift is the Chinese Waves Dishcloth. A few of us at the shop are making it in Euroflax Sport Weight Linen from Louet and plan to give and use them as exfoliating washcloths as opposed to for the dishes, although they would be great for either. You can get quite a few dishcloths from one skein and, paired with a bar of some pretty soap, you get great bang for your buck if you have a few recipients!
Lastly, I have the Gaptastic Cowl. This cowl is great way to show off beautiful bulky yarn with its simple seed stitch (also good for TV knitting). If you cast on an odd number of stitches, you don’t even need to keep track of the beginning of the round; just keep knitting and purling until you run out of yarn! Kate made hers from two skeins of Malabrigo Rasta for its bulk and beautiful colors, but this cowl can be made from any yarn in any weight that you love if you don’t mind changing the number of stitches that you cast on.
We all have our favorite last-minute gifts, so come on into the shop for more. I hope that you got some inspiration from these and that you all have a happy holiday!
