Bits and Bobs
My Sister Knits constantly has yarn, books, and samples added or restocked. If you’ve ever witnessed a UPS shipment arriving at the shop, you’ve seen first-hand the excitement that comes with it. It’s always fun to open those boxes!
This week should bring us a new yarn, Heavy Merino, from Knitting for Olive. Heavy Merino will join her cousins Merino and Soft Silk Mohair. Read more about them in this post. Heavy Merino is worsted weight, comes in 50g balls of 137 yards, and it’s sourced from sheep in Argentina and Chile. As with the other yarns in this divine line, this fiber can be traced directly back to the animal it came from.
We’ve restocked mini skeins of The Fibre Co. Amble. These are darling little 25g, 88-yard fingering weight skeins in a cozy blend of 70% washable wool, 20% alpaca, and 10% recycled nylon. Amble was designed to be a sock yarn with the added strength of nylon and ease of washability. However, it also works up beautifully into easy-to-care-for sweaters and accessories. Read more about the eco-friendly process used to make Amble washable here.
The minis are so much fun to use! They can be stripes or a pop of color added to any pattern. We’d love to help you figure out what to do with mini skeins, just ask! We know they can be a little intimidating to use at first. Have courage and curiosity about the effect they’ll have on your project!
Patty Lyons’ book, Knitting Bag of Tricks, just gets better and better the more we dig into it! We can’t recommend it highly enough! Julie has ordered more and, as a gift to you, she’s going to have a spiral binding put on them so they will lay flat. I keep meaning to do that to my copy because it would be so helpful! One of these days…….
As always, please feel free to just drop in and knit at our community table any time you want! We hope you feel part of our community of crafters.
Happy knitting,
