My Sister Knits carries beautiful yarn; that goes without saying. However, it’s fun to take a self-guided tour of the shop to see what else we carry!
To begin with, you’ll find several types of needle gauges. These are indispensable tools for figuring out what size needle is in your hand! The sizes stamped on the needles can be hard to read and a needle gauge is a lifesaver. Some needle gauges also come with a space to measure your gauge on the swatches you always knit (What? You don’t always swatch??) and one even has a magnifier built in!
It’s always nice to have a special pair of scissors used just for yarn or fabric to keep them sharp. Our scissor collection can be found throughout the shop.
HIghlighter tape is a necessity for keeping your place when working from a chart. Place it on the row above your current row. That way you can easily see where you are by looking at the row you just worked! We have at least three colors to choose from.
Knitters Pride Knit Blockers are the best! They make pinning any straight edges a breeze by helping to keep an even tension across the width of your project. Plus, they speed up the process of blocking!
As you continue your tour you’ll find that we have all sorts of items to make your knitting experience more enjoyable. For instance, a candle adds a nice scent and contributes to a cozy atmosphere, especially as we head into fall. We have new scents galore; there will surely be one you love!
As our weather gets colder and the humidity drops, our hands get super dry. Our scented and non-scented lotion bars are just the thing to have in your project bag! There also is lanolin from Cestari sheep to keep your hands feeling smooth and nourished at this time of year. See if you can find it by the register!
Bags and pouches of all sizes and styles hold essentials from stitch markers to pieces of chocolate to sweater size amounts of yarn.
It’s a good idea to have a dedicated wool wash for your hand knits because they are made with gentle ingredients that won’t harm your carefully made projects. We like ones that don’t need the second step of rinsing such as Eucalan or Soak.
You’ll find other items to enhance your knitting experience when you’re able to take the time to browse the nooks and crannies of the shop. We invite you to do just that!
