Let's Do This!
Recently I wanted to refer back to some projects I’ve made. The problem is that I can’t find the information I’m looking for. If I had posted those projects on my Ravelry project page, I would have what I wanted at my fingertips!
That got me thinking about what holds me, and possibly others, back from posting projects. Which led to thoughts about designers, yarn companies, and yarn shops who benefit from the posting of projects.
I want to get into the habit of posting my projects for several reasons, not the least of which is to have the details of each project easily available. I’d like to support the designer by adding to the number of projects on their pattern page. The more projects for a pattern, the more likely people are to buy that pattern.
Here is a run-down of my major hesitations and some solutions:
After I’ve finished a project, I do not want to spend time posting about it.
The solution to this is easy and I’ve already done it for my current WIP. When I’m starting something, I’m always excited about it and everything is at hand including my needles, gauge swatch, yarn, and pattern. If I put that project on Ravelry right when I’m beginning and include that information, all I have to do at the end is post a photo and add some notes that might help someone else.
Photos are a huge drawback.
It’s easy to be intimidated by gorgeous project photos from other people! I think taking an in-progress photo at the beginning and posting it is a jumping-off place to a finished photo. In-progress photos don’t have to be perfect and will put me in a better mindset to post a finished one.
Coming up with a title is another stumbling block.
Coming up with a cute title may be fun for some people but it is not necessary. I’ve decided that it’s just fine to use the name of the pattern as a title for my projects!
Will you join me in posting your next project or two on Ravelry? We’ll be helping ourselves by keeping useful details easily accessible. We’ll be helping other knitters with our project information and notes. We’ll be helping designers by adding to their pattern project pages. We’ll also be helping yarn companies and the shop where we purchased our yarn. It’s a nice way to give back to the world right now.
Here is a link to a Raveler who has kept excellent track of her projects throughout the years and here is a link to my page. Notice the difference! It’s not too late to start!
