A Morning With Deb Robson

Deb Robson is a fiber generalist, a fount of information on all things woolly, and she lives right here in Fort Collins!

Deb is the fiber author of The Fleece and Fiber Sourcebook, in collaboration with livestock expert Carol Ekarius. This book is an encyclopedia of more than 200 animal fibers!  The photos of the animals, fleece, yarn, and swatches are pure visual delight.

The description of each breed includes some fascinating history and basic facts such as the fiber diameters, lock characteristics, and natural colors.  Deb also includes information about using each type of fiber. She discusses dyeing; fiber preparation and spinning tips; knitting, crocheting, and weaving with it; and what it’s best known for.

Deb Robson and Carol Ekarius also wrote The Field Guide to Fleece.  This book is in a portable paperback format and describes 100 sheep breeds.  It’s perfect for tucking into your bag when you go to your next fiber festival! It’s also handy to have when you come across some breed specific yarn at a yarn shop!

If you’ve ever read a ball band on a skein of yarn and wondered about the animal who provided the fiber for such a marvel, one of these books is for you!

Both of these books are in our lending library.  Be sure to browse through them when you’re next in My Sister Knits.  They are glorious! Anyone who loves the animals who give us so many hours of pleasure working with their wool absolutely needs one of these books!

Deb is going to share some of her knowledge with us on Saturday, January 25th!  We will start at 8:30 with breakfast treats from Little Bird Bakery. Deb will speak from 9 until 10.  She’ll bring swatches for us to handle and compare; she’ll teach us about the roles these treasures can play in our lives; and she may even reveal a few breeds that can be machine washed and dried without any fuss!

The sign up deadline for this event is Friday, January 10th.  You may sign up online or by calling the shop at 970.407.1461.  This would be a terrific gift for you and a fiber loving friend! Sign up now to avoid getting caught up in the holidays and forgetting! It would be a shame to miss out on this incredibly special chance to meet and learn from the best!
