MSK/North Light Fibers Knitting Retreat!
Have you been dreaming about attending a knitting retreat with the My Sister Knits community? If so, your chance is here!
My Sister Knits is partnering with North Light Fibers to host a knitting retreat in June of 2020!
For several years some of us have had participating in a North Light Fibers retreat on our ‘Really Want to Do’ list. Last year Julie and Diana made their dream come true. Now Julie wants all of us to have the opportunity to experience the wonder that is a North Light Fibers retreat! To that end, My Sister Knits is partnering with Sven Risom of North Light Fibers for their Block Island Knitting Retreat June 7 - 9, 2020. This is such good news!
North Light Fibers is located on Block Island which is 12 miles out to sea from the Rhode Island coast. A magical place with incredible landscapes, birds galore, and an artist community awaits as you disembark the ferry to the island. The Nature Conservancy has designated Block Island as “one of the 12 last great places in the Western Hemisphere”.
In the middle of the island is Abrams Farm and in the middle of the farm is North Light Fibers. Imagine walking through the alpaca pasture, past the yak, camels, kangaroos, and the zeedonk to get to NLF!
Arrival for the retreat is Sunday, June 7th. Workshops are on Monday and Tuesday. Departure is Tuesday afternoon on either the 3pm or 5pm ferry. The price is all inclusive with gourmet meals, room, workshop fees, ferry tickets, and even yarn for homework! There are three types of rooms available to meet your needs.
Melanie Berg and Sarah Solomon are our teachers for this retreat.
Melanie Berg is a gifted designer whose passion is shawls. Her workshop will teach us basic shawl layouts and we will learn how different shapes are constructed. She will also cover details such as gauge and size calculations. Just think, you can use this information to better understand the intricacies of shawls or to design your own shawl; a perfect way to use that skein of exquisite yarn in your stash!
Sarah Solomon is a versatile designer; just take a look at her Ravelry page! Her patterns have appeared in publications such as PomPom, Vogue Knitting, and Interweave Knits. She has designed for Woofolk, Kelbourne Woolens, and mYak. Her workshop will focus on plant and animal fibers, what effect different types of spinning have on yarn, and how to put this knowledge to informed use whether we’re wanting to make a lightweight lace shawl, a cabled hard-wearing sweater, or a heavenly soft cowl.
We have brochures with all of the details at the shop. You can sign up for this retreat on the North Light Fibers website. Space is limited and interest is high so make your decision before the rooms are gone! This a great birthday or holiday present for your family to give you!
Also, mark your calendars for Tuesday December 3rd to meet Sven at the shop!
