Patty Lyons’ Workbook Class!

First there was Patty Lyons’ book Knitting Bag of Tricks, a treasure in and of itself. Then came along The Official Workbook to accompany it! In it are seven lessons that include multiple exercises and thought-provoking questions to give us a better understanding of our own knitting.

I was so excited when I first looked at The Official Workbook and immediately wanted to start working through the book. I could tell that, even with my years of experience, I’d learn so much! This book really is for everyone; all levels of knitters will become more knowledgeable and understand the whys in addition to the hows of their knitting.

However, I thought that this book might sit on the shelf if I didn’t intentionally set aside some time for it. I imagined that others might feel the same way and I came up with the idea of a group of knitters working through it together. I started asking others about their ideas for how this could be done and a class began to take shape.

My vision for this class is of a group of knitters getting together, knitting swatches, and discussing the questions Patty has for each exercise. We’ll take pictures of our swatches and put them in our workbooks. My Sister Knits now has a printer to do that! It’s so cute; the post-it size photos print out on sticky back paper! I didn’t know such a thing existed! In January, we’re going to work through Lesson 1. We’ll meet Tuesdays from noon until 1:00pm. I’m committed to working through the workbook, doing every lesson and every exercise. This is a long term commitment but one I’m excited about.

You need only commit to one Lesson and the corresponding exercises at a time! I’m expecting this class to evolve in ways I can’t envision right now and I’m looking forward to the whole experience!

Would you like to join me for Lesson 1? Sign up here or call the shop at 970.407.1461. You absolutely need both books: Patty Lyons Knitting Bag of Tricks and The Official Workbook. Bring them to each class along with a skein of non-superwash yarn and some needles. I’m going to use worsted weight but DK would also be ok. I suggest a needle size listed on the yarn band but we can help you at the shop if you’re unsure. What length? Either 16” or 24”.

We’ll start promptly at noon because we won’t have a minute to spare! It would be a good idea to flip through the workbook to see how it’s laid out before the first class.

Let’s delve into our knitting together!

NOTICE: Due to lack of staff, December 10th will be our last Tuesday Knit Night until further notice.

Happy knitting,
